John's fundraiser for Neuromuscular Centre

London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 · Start fundraising for this event
In March 2024, I was diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM), a debilitating and degenerative muscle-wasting condition with no known cure. Throughout my life, I have been extremely active and always loved the outdoors, completing all the Wainwrights in the Lakes, playing rugby, skiing, fell racing, ultras, golfing, and enjoying fantastic walks.
The Neuromuscular Centre in Cheshire is a specialist facility for many individuals with associated neuromuscular health problems. I have been incredibly fortunate to attend this center since 2025 and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. When I was granted a place by the Neuromuscular Centre to take part in the London Marathon on April 26, 2026, I felt both overjoyed and extremely nervous. This is probably my life's greatest challenge; my ability to move and maintain strength has seriously declined.
However, I keep reminding myself that it’s what I can do now that truly matters. With the support of the Neuromuscular Centre, I am determined to stay as fit and mobile for as long as humanly possible. Therefore, I am reaching out to everyone who visits this page: please support me in raising £3,000 for the Neuromuscular Centre. Your contributions will provide them with the gratitude they so richly deserve.
