The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Next summer, I’m going to try my hand at a triathlon! First, I’ve got to master a tandem bike. Why not throw myself in at the deep end and do the Walk, Run, Cycle event at Oulton Park Race Circuit on Sunday 6th September, where we are going to attempt to cycle 5 laps of an iconic circuit!

For those wondering how this is going to work, I’m not steering! Paul, one of my fantastic guide runners, is going to do the hard work of keeping us in the right direction and pilot. There is just one tiny catch… Neither of us has ever ridden a tandem bike before. We’ve gone from running together at the Dabbers Dash to desperately hoping we can pedal in sync around a racing circuit without ending up in a heap. It’s safe to say it’s going to be very interesting, highly entertaining, and definitely a workout we won't forget!

We are taking on this comedy-of-errors cycling adventure to raise vital funds for Guide Dogs. As someone who relies on a Guide Dog, I know firsthand the life-changing independence, freedom, and companionship these incredible dogs provide. The training and support required to bring a partnership together takes significant resources, and every pound we raise will help ensure more people with sight loss can get the support they need.

Please sponsor our maiden (and potentially chaotic) ride! Whether you want to support a fantastic cause or simply watch us figure out how to steer a tandem at speed, any donation big or small would mean the world to us, and will give us the extra push we need to make it all 5 laps!

Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.

Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
