Story
On 26th April 2026, I'll be lacing up my running shoes to take on the incredible challenge of the London Marathon. This isn't just about covering 26.2 miles; it's a deeply personal journey, run in loving memory of my amazing dad, who we sadly lost to cancer in 2011.
Dad passed away a month before his 50th birthday, after a long and courageous battle. He was always so fit and healthy, which just goes to show that cancer can truly affect anyone, regardless of their lifestyle. Losing him so young, and so suddenly, left an unimaginable void in our lives.
The hardest part is knowing all the moments he missed and will continue to miss. He never got to walk me down the aisle, and he'll never meet his grandchildren. Dad absolutely adored children; he had such a big heart and a wonderful way with them. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, he would have been the most amazing, "bestest" grandad. These are the precious milestones that cancer stole from us, and from him.
I'm incredibly fortunate to be running for Worldwide Cancer Research, a charity dedicated to funding pioneering discovery research into any type of cancer, anywhere in the world. Their mission is to spark new cures and accelerate breakthroughs that reveal new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat this devastating disease.
My dad's fight, and the heartache of all those missed moments, fuels every step of my training. Every pound raised for Worldwide Cancer Research goes directly towards funding the vital work of brilliant scientists. Their discoveries could one day lead to the breakthroughs we desperately need to ensure fewer families experience this same pain.
Running 26.2 miles will be one of the toughest challenges I've ever faced. But with every mile, I'll be thinking of Dad, and every step will be a step closer to a world where fewer lives are cut short by cancer.
Please consider donating to my page and helping me honour my dad's memory by contributing to this incredible cause. Your support, no matter how big or small, will make a tangible difference.
Thank you,
June x
