Riders are taking the reins for a challenge of a lifetime — racing a mile at the prestigious Newbury and Wetherby racecourses! Support our jockeys as they raise funds to protect horses, keep riders safe and inspire more people to enjoy horses.

Story

Our world is changing and evolving. The world of horses is changing. Riding schools are declining. Roads are increasingly dangerous to ride on and our off-road routes need protecting. Our equestrian industry is under growing scrutiny. And young people across the UK are finding times pretty tough with an almost 14 per cent unemployment rate for 16 to 24 year olds. But together with The British Horse Society, we can ensure horses remain relevant in today's world., and that more young people can build confidence and skills, something this charity has helped over 4,600 going people to achieve through their programme "Changing Lives Through Horses" - so it's not all just about horses for anyone reading this wondering why you should donate if you're not horse mad.

By donating, you'll be helping this charity to keep supporting even more young people, helping those most marginalised in society to build skills to succeed in our changing world, through the power of connecting with horses. You will also help over 6000 horses receive welfare care and offer owners advice to prevent future welfare concerns. You'll influence highway and Police authorities take action at accident & near-miss hotspots and help make our roads safer for all road users.

You'll feel how much pride we take when young people like Charlie's self-esteem builds as they learn key life skills through the Changing Lives through Horses programme. "School was a never ending thunderstorm. But everything is calm when I'm with the horses."

I am passionate about helping young people to succeed and I do a lot of this in my work. Horses are my passion outside of work and I am honoured to be taking part in this challenge and bringing the two things together.

Inspired by the film "National Velvet" in my own childhood, I always dreamed of becoming a jockey. I turned 50 last month and am finally, even at this ripe old age, being able to fulfill a lifelong dream. It's taken 6 months of hard work - training for and passing the Jockey Fitness Assessment and working over 150 hours as a volunteer for a racehorse trainer where I have been able to build new skills and confidence myself, are just a couple of examples of just what it has taken this summer.

Donate today and be part of our collective voice.
