MCMC 10th Anniversary 10K & Goring Gap Challenge · 17 May 2025 to 18 May 2025 ·

In celebration of MCMC's 10th Anniversary, join us for a beautiful 10K walk along the Thames and through the riverside villages of the Chiltern Hills. You will be walking 1K for each of our 10 years of support for those affected by cancer.

Story

In September 2024 I went for a routine mammogram and by 2nd of October 2024 I had been called back to breast screening, had a biopsy and received a diagnosis of Breast Cancer.

On October 17th I had a Lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed. Then 4 weeks of waiting for surgery results, 2 days later I had a 2nd surgery to remove further tissue. Thankfully this surgery resulted in a clear margin, no spread to my lymph nodes and results were positive so radiotherapy was the next step.

Whilst waiting in the Berkshire Cancer Centre for my results I noticed a leaflet; It was My Cancer My Choice's information about Complimentary therapies. Wow I thought, this is amazing so I called and registered just before Christmas of 24.. I couldn't quite believe they were offering 6 free Complimentary therapies worth at least £350 and a choice of therapies too. The lady on the end of the phone was just wonderful and supportive at such an emotional time. In January 25 the lady called to offer my first reflexology appointment and it was just fantastic. Since then I have had 3 further reflexology treatments all offered around my radiotherapy appointments.

I am so grateful for MCMC and the amazing work they are doing and to all the volunteer therapists that make it possible so I am taking on My Cancer My Choice's 10th Anniversary Challenge and doing the Goring Gap 10K Walk to raise funds in support of those living with cancer.

The route I will be taking uses the Thames and Ridgeway national trails which are mixed terrain, including woodland sections through the Chiltern Hills and a couple of notable climbs in the Chilterns!

My Cancer My Choices understands the challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis which is why it is passionate about providing access to complementary therapies that can help alleviate some symptoms, reduce stress, and improve overall wellbeing for individuals living with cancer. They believe that everyone with cancer deserves access to complementary therapies from the moment of diagnosis.

I am excited to be fundraising for such an important cause and please support me in the challenge, knowing your donation will make a difference to people with cancer.
