Katharine Barnett is raising money for Crohn’s & Colitis UK

Great North Run 2026 · 13 September 2026 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

This Great North Run will be the 15th I have done and will be my last so we really want to go out with a bang. Can you help to make 2026, the final GNR for me, an epic fundraising extravaganza?

As before, I am fundraising for Crohn’s and Colitis UK in a very hot and sticky inflatable costume!

It will be a quiet affair this year in comparison to others as I'm anticipating feeling a little hoarse ... I'll just leave that there so you can guess yourselves what costume I may be in😁!

Crohn's and Colitis UK is my chosen charity because of the pain I have seen my lovely brother and his family go through when he has a flare up. I’ve watched one of my best friends see her mum crippled by Crohn’s and shared their pain and worry. Through raising money for this charity I have also discovered just how many of the people in my life have one or other of the conditions. It just makes me more determined to do a little bit to help. Watching the people you love hurt and being unable to do anything is excruciating.

This is why I’m hoping you’ll donate a little bit of your hard earned cash to a very worthy cause.

To those of you dealing with this personally or with your loved ones, you are the heroes. The 2026 eco-climate in my costume is for you 😂😜😂❤️❤️❤️

And now, some information about my charity xxx

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis.

Right now, an estimated 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. And the real number could be almost double that.

Because of the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding these diseases, thousands of people are suffering in silence.

But they’re not alone.

We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment, and to fund research into a cure; to raise awareness and to give people hope, comfort and confidence to live freer, fuller lives.
