Story

This fundraiser has been organised to raise much needed funds for Joseph's Journey, a Muscular Dystrophy UK Family Fund set up in support for Joseph from Anglesey who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Funds raised through this page will help pay for research and also help to cover costs of future equipment needs.

Joseph lives on Ynys Mon with mum Katherine, dad Gareth and older sister, Liz and was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of four.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a condition that causes progressive muscle weakness and wasting. It stops the body from making dystrophin, a protein needed for muscle strength and function. DMD mainly affects boys and typically starts in early childhood, and eventually leads to a loss of mobility. Over time, the condition also affects the heart and breathing muscles, which can cause life-threatening complications and shorten life expectancy. Specialist care is needed at all stages. While there is no cure for DMD, research is ongoing and new treatments are being developed.

Muscular Dystrophy UK supports all families affected by Muscular Dystrophy and contributes funding into DMD research, which is incredibly important and gives hope that one day better treatments will be available for those suffering from this progressive condition. It also gives the family the opportunity to raise important funds for Joseph's future with regards to better equipment that the NHS unfortunately cannot always provide. None of this would be made possible without your generosity and support, and for this we cannot thank you enough.

Net proceeds from Josephs Journey will be split with 80% of the funds specifically going towards research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and the remaining 20% held in trust for Joseph's future care needs, which will become extensive as he grows older.

All donations and support are greatly appreciated. Thank you ❤️
