Story
We’re raising £6,500 to replace a life-changing minibus for children with cerebral palsy in Kathmandu, Nepal. This amount is being matched by New Futures Nepal to achieve the £13,000 that a new bus will cost.
Cerebral palsy can affect a child’s ability to move, communicate and learn. While there is no cure, access to therapy, education and consistent support can transform lives. Yet for many families in Nepal, poverty, limited healthcare and social stigma mean children are often left without the help they need.
The Bhaktapur Parents Group is a parent-led community offering care, dignity and hope to families of children with cerebral palsy. Since 2010, they have supported 24 families through a welcoming day-care centre providing physiotherapy, guided exercise, education (including computer skills), life skills and emotional support. Just as importantly, they empower parents with confidence, knowledge and a community that understands their journey.
For many families, the biggest barrier is simply getting to the centre. Public transport can be unreliable, inaccessible and physically exhausting for children with disabilities and their carers. Right now, the group’s existing minibus is old and increasingly unreliable.
A dependable replacement minibus would:
• Help more children attend regularly
• Reduce the physical strain on parents
• Ensure consistent access to therapy and education
• Reach families who are currently isolated from support
Our goal is to raise £6,500 towards the purchase of a reliable replacement minibus that will serve this community for years to come.
How you can help: Every donation makes a difference. You can also get involved in fundraising — whether that’s running a race, hosting an event, taking on a challenge or even doing something a little quirky for sponsorship… how many chillies can you eat in one sitting?
Thank you for your generosity and for helping create lasting change in these children’s lives.
About this appeal: This appeal is run by friends of the charity in the UK, with all funds managed by New Futures Nepal. Donations are restricted solely to the purchase of the minibus and this campaign is separate from—and in addition to—the charity’s annual fundraising. It is a one-off appeal for vital equipment that will make a long-term difference to these families.
