Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I’m on my way to Washington DC to join Team GOSH for Leg 8 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, where we’ll be sailing non-stop across the Atlantic.
This is the final leg of the race, known as The Atlantic Homecoming. We’ll be covering around 7,000km in total, starting in Washington DC, crossing the Atlantic to Oban, and then carrying on to the overall race finish in Portsmouth.
I’ll be away for about six weeks, with roughly 22 days actually racing on the ocean. So it’s quite a big one.
The Clipper Race is a round-the-world ocean race crewed by ordinary people. Each boat has a professional skipper and first mate, but the rest of us are amateurs - with just a month of training to prepare us.
It will be a real test: long days and nights at sea, limited sleep, changing weather, a lot of wet kit, and life on a 70-foot racing yacht with very little personal space. So not exactly a relaxing summer break, but hopefully a memorable one.
I’ll be sailing on Team GOSH, which is racing in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. The team have had an amazing race so far - winning 5 stages and going into the final leg 1st overall on points. So no pressure joining them now…
I’d love to use the opportunity to raise as much as I can for the charity.
Great Ormond Street Hospital sees around 76,000 children each year through around 250,000 admissions and appointments. Every day, more than 750 seriously ill children and young people are seen at GOSH from across the UK and beyond.
GOSH Charity helps fund the hospital’s most urgent needs and supports work that goes beyond what the NHS can provide - from pioneering research and specialist medical equipment, to family accommodation, child-centred facilities, and support for children, families and staff.
It’s a hugely worthwhile cause, and one I’m very glad to be able to support through the race.
I’ve funded my place on the race myself, so every donation on this page goes directly to GOSH Charity.
You can also follow our progress on the Clipper Race Tracker once we’re underway:

Any donation, large or small, would be hugely appreciated. Thank you for supporting me, Team GOSH and the charity.
Katie
