Story

"Above all what matters is not to lose the joy of living in the fear of dying", Maggie Keswick Jencks

Last year we lost our amazing Dad to Stage 4 terminal Cancer. Whilst his 15-month battle was devastating for us all, in the face of adversity he was an inspiration, living for every moment of every day. This outlook is shared by two causes we want to raise awareness of and support this year:

1. Maggie's Centres founded in Edinburgh, are an incredible charity that provide vital support for people and their families affected by cancer. They offer a safe, welcoming space where individuals can find emotional, practical, and psychological support throughout their cancer journey. The difference they make in people’s lives is immeasurable, helping to reduce the isolation and fear that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis. Maggie's idea was that with the right support, "nobody would lose the joy of living in the fear of dying when diagnosed with cancer". In June, Carol and Louise are climbing North Africa’s highest mountain Mount Toubkal, a 6-day trek through the Atlas' Mountains mountainous terrain, to raise funds for this remarkable charity.

2. Tour de 4 is a brand new cycling initiative, born from Sir Chris Hoy’s vision to change perceptions around stage 4 cancer following his own diagnosis. The cycle has a clear purpose: to demonstrate that a Stage 4 diagnosis, while devastating, doesn't define the limits of what's possible. In September, the three of us are taking part in this 37-mile cycle starting and ending at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome, bringing those affected by cancer directly or indirectly together, to challenge perceptions, inspire hope and raise vital funds for cancer charities across the UK.

Together, we want to support these causes in memory of our Dad and change perceptions around Stage 4 terminal cancer. By donating, you’re not only helping us achieve this, but helping others who need it most, ensuring they don’t have to face cancer alone.

Lots of love, Katie, Carol and Louise Stoddart xxx
