Katie's fundraiser for The Aplastic Anaemia Trust

Peak District Walk 2025 · 1 March 2025
On the 1st of March 2025, my mum Kim and I will be embarking on an 8-mile hike through the stunning Peak District for the Aplastic Anaemia trust. Whilst the scenery promises to be breathtaking, this hike will be a real challenge for both of us due to ongoing chronic illnesses. But despite this, we’re determined to power through and smash this hike, because The Aplastic Anaemia Trust is such a deserving charity, and one very close to our hearts.
We will be posting updates to the page regularly so you can see how we are getting on, we’ll be doing some longer walks closer to home to prepare, and we’ll also update after the event so you can see how we get on!
Aplastic anaemia is an extremely rare and life-threatening autoimmune disease. It occurs when the bone marrow fails to produce enough of the vital components which make up blood—essentially, it’s ‘bone marrow failure.’ This devastating condition affects only about 2 in a million people, and so much about it remains unknown. That’s why the work of The Aplastic Anaemia Trust is so vital.
As the only UK charity focused on this disease, they’re leading the way in funding essential research to improve treatments, supporting patients and their families, and spreading awareness about aplastic anaemia. For our family, this charity’s mission is personal - our wonderful dad and husband was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia 3 years ago, so the work of AAT makes this walk and fundraising opportunity even more meaningful to us.
By donating to our fundraiser, you’ll be helping to provide much-needed funding for further research, better treatments, and support for those living with this ultra-rare disease. Every pound you give is a step closer to important medical breakthroughs, and a brighter future for patients and their families.
Please join us in making a difference. Together, we can ensure no one faces aplastic anaemia alone.
Love,
Kim and Katie xx
