Story
I will be running this 10k to raise awareness and much needed funds for APS Support UK, a charity and syndrome I had not heard about until it impacted a close friend.
After suffering two miscarriages, some blood tests were run and, at 5 weeks pregnant, Lucy was diagnosed with a rare blood clotting syndrome called APS - a chronic illness neither she nor her family or friends had heard of before. Lucy was told that not only did she have APS, but that she was triple positive for it, making her at significantly greater risk of suffering a serious blood clot or stroke.
As a result of being triple positive, Lucy was also told that her chance of carrying her baby to a viable birth was reduced to 20%, even with prescribed injections twice a day, taking blood thinners and a lot of other medication.
Despite the low chance of success, Lucy and Jack bravely decided to continue with their pregnancy. It has been very tough for them both, and has taken a huge toll on Lucy’s mental and physical health. Thankfully, despite the odds, (Miracle) Max was born three months ago.
The plan for Lucy to now manage and treat the APS is still a big unknown and incredibly daunting. It will mean huge changes to her and her family’s life but for now she is focusing on the win that they got their miracle son.
The team of Lucy’s friends and family running this 10k want to raise vital funds and awareness so we can improve the lives of people suffering with APS.
Many thanks for your support.
