Story

Dear friends and family,

I’ll be taking on The Grizzly once again and this year it happens to fall on International Women’s Day, with the theme of “give to gain” which felt far too fitting not to use as a moment to support a charity close to my heart.

Last year, when I first set my sights on the Grizzly, I was still in recovery, piecing myself back together one slow plod at a time. Crossing that finish line felt like reclaiming something cancer had tried to take from me.

This year feels different. I’m stronger, steadier, and more myself again. I’ve also found huge strength and support through running, especially from my brilliant friends Anna and Louise, who’ll be running the Grizzly with me. And at home, my girls have seen me tired, scared, determined, hopeful. I want them to see this part too where I choose joy, challenge and solidarity.

That’s why I’m raising money for Girls vs Cancer, a charity built by women who’ve lived this reality. They speak openly and unapologetically about what cancer really looks like including the fear, the dark humour, the loneliness, the grit and they use that honesty to build community and support for people who need it most.

The Grizzly Cub is 9 miles of trails, hills, pebble beaches and the infamous “Stairway to Heaven.” It’s muddy, relentless, and a little bit wild, which feels fitting. Cancer is all of those things too. But I’ll keep putting one foot in front of the other, because I can. And because so many others are still fighting to get back to that place.

If you’re able to donate, you’ll be helping Girls vs Cancer continue their vital work: amplifying real stories, offering emotional and practical support and making sure no one feels alone in the hardest moments of their lives.

Thank you for reading, for cheering me on, and for standing with me and with everyone facing cancer on this International Women’s Day.
