In January 2023, a year ago today, our son Jack was taken seriously ill with what we would later find out to be 6 viral infections and a bacterial infection. At age two and a half his body just couldn't cope.

We found ourselves very quickly moving from the GP, to A&E, to hospital admission, to a high dependancy ward where he deteriorated and stopped breathing less than 24 hours after his initial high temperature. The amazing staff at Chelsea and Westminster stabalised him and moved him to PICU at St Mary's hospital where he was in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator.

We had just welcomed our 2nd son Louis 4 weeks earlier so our happy newborn, family of four bubble was obliterated.

Cosmic house offered us comfort away from home, we had on-site accommodation at the hospital so one of us could be near Jack 24/7. We could get the essential sleep we needed to care for Jack and for Louis. They offered us all the newborn essentials in the event we would have to have Louis stay with us. Somewhere you don't expect to have to take your newborn baby. With the support of family and friends we were lucky enough that Louis was safe at home so we could focus on Jack.

Not only do Cosmic provide accommodation to families with children in the PICU, they have provided life saving equipment not funded by the NHS, critical research and countless hours of counselling for families and the precious NHS staff caring for children in the PICU.

Helen and Jo, the family liaison officers were nothing short of angels during Jacks stay at St Mary's hospital. Taking care of many simple things that we just didn't have the mental or emotional capacity for.

We are eternally grateful for everyone that supported us and cared for Jack during his stay at St Mary's, but it was made endlessly easier with the support from Cosmic and I am thrilled to be able to give back to them in this way.

Many of you will know that I have never been a runner, and now I'm into my late thirties and after two kids, this will be an enormous challenge for me, but not nearly as challenging as seeing my son stop breathing in my arms.

Any small donation will be greatly received by me and the Cosmic team. We are grateful beyond words and I cannot wait to see Jack when I cross the finish line.
