Story
“Walk for Home is the winter walking event that tackles homelessness.
Shelter (2023) share some bleak statistics on a 74% rise in homelessness in the last 10 years. They also state that at least 271,000 people in England are homeless, including as many as 123,000 children.
With the current cost of living crisis, financial insecurity is effecting more and more people. Financial strain (debt and unemployment) are significant risk factors for future homelessness (Medical Care, 2021). Helping those in need and fighting this issue is important now more than ever.
Shelter “exist to defend the right to a safe home.” To name a few of the things they do, they support renters rights, demand more social housing and have fought for the introduction of the Social Housing Regulation Act. They have a 365 day emergency helpline and have expert information accessible on their website. They also provide free legal advice to those who have lost their home or face eviction.
On the 6th of December, I am participating in a 10 k walk with the Shelter Charity to fight against homelessness. I know that this is a hard time financially for everyone, but please if you’re able to, donate to my just giving page to help fight against homelessness and help those who need it.
