It’s late 2023 and Prostate Cancer UK’s awareness campaign is encouraging men to take a simple blood test to test for signs of prostate cancer.

Despite having none of the symptoms outlined, I took the test and received the words no man wants to hear: "you have prostate cancer."

The silver lining was that it had been detected early.

Local doctors recommended treatments they were familiar with, such as surgery or radiotherapy. However, my own research led me to discover Prost8 UK and the focal therapy treatment options available. The advice and guidance I received was invaluable, ultimately leading me to undergo a less invasive focal treatment—cryotherapy—in May 2024.

Within just eight weeks, I was back to lightly jogging 5k runs. Now, with PSA blood tests every three months to monitor my condition, I am grateful that my prostate cancer is almost undetectable, allowing me to live a normal lifestyle.

Focal treatments like HIFU and Cryotherapy have been available on the NHS for over 20 years. Unfortunately, due to limited equipment across the country, many men facing prostate cancer are never informed about these options.
