Why I’m Stepping Up for Young Carers ❤️
This June, I’m taking on the Step Up for Young Carers challenge to support The Junction and the incredible young carers across the Tees Valley.
Young carers are children and young people who look after a parent, sibling, or loved one who is ill, disabled, struggling with addiction, or facing mental health challenges. Many spend around 25 hours every week caring—on top of school, homework, and simply growing up.
That often means less time to relax, see friends, or just be a child.
That’s where The Junction makes such a difference. They support young carers by providing:
* Short breaks and vital respite
* Time with other young carers who truly understand
* Fun activities and emotional support
* A chance to step away from responsibility, even for a little while
This June, I’ll be running a mile every day. It might not sound like much, but being years out of practice, it’s going to be a real challenge for me! I’m doing it to help ensure young carers don’t have to cope alone.
I’ve had the privilege of working alongside The Junction and meeting some of the children and young people they support. Seeing firsthand the realities they face is what inspired me to take this on and raise awareness.
Every donation—big or small—can help give a young carer the chance to breathe, laugh, and feel supported.
Thank you so much for your support 💛
