Roge, Pete & I trek the GR78 in the Pyrenees · 25 July 2025
Our beloved lifelong friend Tom O’Hare was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma in July 2021, and left this world on the 9th September 2022.
Having been cared for with love by his family and friends (Tom’s Team), he was then cared for with compassion and great dignity at St. Ann’s Hospice.
During Tom’s illness we all became aware of the need for breakthroughs in the understanding and treatment of brain cancer - the Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally.
To raise money for this important charity, Roger, Pete and I have finally got our act together to trek across a section of the Pyrenees, reviving a half-baked notion Tom and I once had to arrive on foot and rendezvous with the Shrewsbury diocese pilgrimage to Lourdes. In our youth we spent many happy times together in Lourdes as volunteer helpers.
Our hike involves five days and around 45 miles of trekking Westwards through the Pyrenees on the GR78 to arrive in Lourdes and meet with the Shrewsbury pilgrimage, a trip that Tom would have loved. He’ll be with us on every step of the journey.
Thank you for reading this short description and if you can, please donate a little to this important charity.
