Story
I am one of 14 local business leaders and influencers who have been locked up for Maggie's. I've been found guilty of 'Shopping for salmon in Tesco', and sent down with bail set at a minimum of £1,000.
With only my phone, laptop and my powers of persuasion, I need your help to raise funds to pay bail and escape jail!
"In 2006, I lost my wife, Maggie, to cancer. At that time there was nowhere like Maggie’s — no welcoming space to talk to counsellors or just sit quietly and make sense of what was happening. It was one of the hardest times of my life, and that’s why this wonderful invitation struck such a chord with me.
Because Maggie’s Centres are that safe place for so many people facing the same kind of dilemma or heartbreak — offering calm, expert, compassionate support when it’s needed most. Until you find yourself in that space you don’t appreciate how difficult it is for your own mind to process the whole impact of cancer diagnosis along the route it will follow.
So, next February, I’ll be “behind bars” with other local businesspeople, raising funds to keep Maggie’s doors open for families across the UK."
For many people living in the Northeast, Maggie's Aberdeen is a beacon of hope, offering a unique programme of practical and psychological support, available free of charge to people at any stage and with any type of cancer, and to their family and friends.
Maggie’s Aberdeen opened its doors in 2013, and by the end of 2026 they expect to have welcomed and supported over 100,000 visits, delivered thousands of one-to-one psychologist sessions, and secured over £9million in financial benefits for local people. They rely entirely on voluntary donations and gifts in wills to fund their work, and with instances of cancer 1 in 2 people, there is huge demand for the support they provide.
Please donate to bail me out (or keep me in!) and support Maggie’s – every £ will help.
