WE NEED KENSAL TRI TEAM MEMBERS' HELP TO SAVE LIVES

Kensal Tri so nearly lost a team member, Rob, to cardiac arrest on July 18 2024.

Rob was jogging in Carlton Vale and fell to the pavement where, according to doctors later, he had little chance of surviving or surviving without brain damage. By miracle he avoided both.

We don't want others to have to rely on miracles. Rob's chances would have improved by around 70% if his two brave passer-by rescuers (who called 999 and took instructions to gave him CPR) had had access to a defribrillator.

We now know one SHOULD have been around - but it was inside a locked away building!

Our Tri team has been shocked to discover there is very poor 24/7 access to a defribirllators in Kensal Green & Carlton Vale - they tend to be in tube stations, sports centres and local Tesco stores which are closed at night until early morning.

London Ambulance Service has flagged Kensal Green as a London priority area and you can see the poor coverage at www.kensaltri.com/savelives.

We want to help secure one for the community in Kensal Green, at Kensal Rise Library on Bathurst Gardens/College Rd/Mortimer Rd. This would serve hundreds of people on the surrounding roads.

We also want to secure one near to the spot where Rob was so lucky to survive in Carlton Vale.

The cost of a 24/7 defib in a cabinet anyone can access 24/7 is around £1,600 and we are targeting £5,000 to cover installation as well for both machines.

Each year in Britain around 30,000 people are struck by sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital environments. They can affect anyone at any time -- from young children at school to adults when they're at home, work or in public places. If victims aren't treated properly, more often than not, cardiac arrests are fatal.

That's why it's so important to have defibrillators that provide high-energy electric shocks to the heart in as many public places as possible - if a defib is used within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival rates jump from 6 to 74 percent.
