RideLondon 2024
Campaign by Muscular Dystrophy UK (RCN 205395 (England and Wales) - SC039445 (Scotland))
Our fantastic #TeamMDUK cyclists are taking on RideLondon in 2024 to help bring forward the day that we beat muscle-wasting conditions.

Story

I'm taking on RideLondon-Essex 100 in support of Muscular Dystrophy UK because the support is needed now more than ever.

This year will be our (myself and my sister Sharon

) fifth RideLondon, we will be riding in memory of our mother Brenda who sadly passed away on the 1st of April 2023. We have chosen to ride for Muscular Dystrophy UK, in remembrance of our mom, a charity that has a very special importance to us as Muscular Dystrophy has been something we have always been very aware of throughout our lives. Muscular Dystrophy has been in all generations of our family, our mother, uncle Geoff, grandmother Ivy and her mother before her.

Mom grew up in the UK in Stourbridge in the West Midlands. She was diagnosed with the mildest form of Muscular Dystrophy Becker MD as a child, an inherited genetic condition that gradually caused her muscles to weaken overtime leading to an increased level of disability, spending the last 15 years of her life in a wheelchair. Mom would get frustrated at times seeing people a lot older than herself running around wishing that she was more mobile. That said she lived a very full happy life and we are very lucky to of had her in our lives.

Not only do we hope to raise money in the hope that one day there will be a cure or a new gene therapy to help improve the symptoms. We also hope to raise awareness of this condition in the UK and Ireland.

Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 110,000 children and adults living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. There's currently no cure, and it many cases, it limits lives. MDUK fund world-class research into treatments and cures as well as providing vital information, advice, resources and support for individuals and families living with these conditions.

All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
