Story
Yes, you read that right – we’re running the London Marathon. And no, this isn’t a joke. We know what you're thinking... They run one 10K and suddenly think they’re pro athletes?! But hear us out...
We’re doing this because no child or young person should ever have to face cancer alone. Every day in the UK, 12 children and young people hear the devastating words: ‘You have cancer.’
In that moment, life changes instantly. Hospital visits replace football or dance classes. Treatment means missing school, friends, and just being a kid. Families face overwhelming emotional and financial strain – often travelling miles from home to reach specialist treatment centres.
But that’s where Young Lives vs Cancer steps in – with a hand outstretched, saying: ‘You’re not in this alone.’
They’re the only UK charity with specialist social workers who support families from diagnosis, through treatment, and beyond – including those facing the unimaginable loss of their child.
And we’ve seen first-hand just how incredible they are!
👋 Hi, I’m Krissa – I’m proud to work for Young Lives vs Cancer as the South and West Yorkshire Fundraising Engagement Manager.
Every day, I meet the most inspiring families – people facing the unthinkable, yet still finding the strength to support others and give back.
I also work alongside our incredible social workers, who are truly the heart of the charity – offering emotional, practical and financial support when it’s needed most.
👋 And I’m Barry – I’d already heard so much from Krissa about the amazing people she works with, but seeing it all first-hand at the 2025 London Marathon cheer point sealed the deal. We knew there and then we had to do our bit!
We might not be runners (yet), but we are determined. Even if it means sore legs and early mornings, we are determined to go from couch to marathon to support such an incredible cause!
We’re aiming to raise £5,000, and every single penny will help Young Lives vs Cancer be there when cancer turns a family’s world upside down.
This could pay for 7 children and young people to be supported by specialist social workers. By always being by their side, you will ensure families won't have to face cancer alone.
If you can donate – thank you. If you can’t, please cheer us on, share our page, or send snacks. Lots of snacks!!!
Thank you for standing with us, and with every family facing cancer. It truly means the world.
See you at the start line,
Krissa & Barry xxx
