Story
Me & Meghan are walking the Cumbria Way on the 25th of June this year. The Cumbria Way is a 112km (70 mile) long-distance footpath through the heart of the Lake District National Park. We’ve never walked this distance before — the biggest challenge we’ve previously completed was a 100,000 step challenge in one day around 3 years ago, and afterwards we said our next big challenge had to be for charity.
We’ll be wild camping along the way and carrying all of our gear in our backpacks, making this a physically and mentally demanding challenge for both of us.
The charity we’ve chosen to support is Spare10forBen, a suicide prevention charity currently raising money for a Ben_ch in the Lake District — a place for people to sit, breathe, reflect, and not feel alone. We would love to help them reach their goal and help get the bench placed in the Lakes.
This challenge is also deeply personal to me. Five years ago, I lost my ex-partner to suicide. It’s something that still affects me deeply and always will.
I know when someone is struggling they can feel like the world would be better without them, but losing someone to suicide is one of the hardest things the people around them can go through.
As we walk through the Lakes, carrying everything we need on our backs and camping under the stars, we hope to raise awareness, support an important cause, and hopefully help create a space that could bring comfort and hope to someone when they need it most 🤍
