On Friday the 6th of October 2023 at 3.45pm, over 100 S6 pupils and staff from Largs Academy will be taking part in a sponsored 5K along Largs prom to raise money for Mary's Meals.

Mary's Meals is an international charity that sets up school feeding programmes in some of the world's poorest communities, where hunger and poverty prevent children from gaining an education. They operate in 18 different countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Mary's Meals now feed more than 2.4 million children every school day. It costs just £19.15 to feed a child for an entire school year, so even small donations can have a huge impact.

Free meals attract hungry children into the classroom. The food gives students the energy and opportunity to learn, giving them the chance of a brighter future and a path out of poverty.

Wherever possible, Mary's Meals serves locally produced food, which supports local communities and their farmers.
