Story
In June 2024, I started to volunteer at a local animal re-homing centre, the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) in Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire. NAWT are a small charity with 5 re-homing centres across the south of the country, and they care for & rehome dogs, cats and small animals. Through volunteering, I have seen first hand how hard the staff work, and how deeply they care for every single animal that comes through their doors. NAWT is not a large scale charity and therefore is often under-funded, especially when animals come into their care and require significant or specialist medical care. The lack of funding does not prevent the staff or volunteers from always doing their utmost for their animals, and they would never turn them away. They work incredibly hard, putting in long hours, in all weathers to love & support the dogs, cats, rabbits & guinea pigs on their journey to their forever homes.
I have secured the ONE London Marathon place that NAWT had for 2026 (the year I happen to turn 40) and I want to raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity, which I have a personal connection to and who's work is so very valuable and often a lifeline to some of the most vulnerable animals in our community.
