Story
After many scans, EEGs, and blood test my daughter aged 6 was diagnosed with atypical epilepsy and focal epilepsy in 2024. She currently has around 5 seizure per day lasting 5-8 minutes.
Seeing my daughter going through this has been so frightening for us as a family, not being able to stop them and being anxious about when the next one is going to happen.
The heartache when Lola is in the seizure is like nothing I’ve never known, her eyes vacantly looking at me knowing she doesn’t know who I am or where she is.
Lola has always loved going on days out, seeing new places and trying new things. Lolas epilepsy has limited this, now being anxious of a seizure happening in the car or when we arrive somewhere.
Over the last couple of years we have watched her be so exhausted from the seizures she cant find the energy to play or even speak. Not being able to complete a full day at school without a nap, the worry and stress of her missing school work and becoming behind or missing out on spending time with friends and losing them friendships. Epilepsy is so much more than seizures and there needs to be more awareness and understanding of the different types of epilepsy and how to support young people and their families.
This Purple Day, we will be taking part in the 26 miles in 26 days Challenge to help raise awareness and life changing funds for children and young people with epilepsy. Together we can create a future where every child with epilepsy can live seizure free.
