We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

If you'd have said to me when I was lying in a hospital bed in March 2024 that I would be signing up to a marathon a little over a year later, I wouldn't have believed it.

My health journey over the last 10 years has been painful and turbulent to say the least. A marathon is the last thing I would think I'd ever be able to complete. I'm a total beginner and this is insane!

After having issues since 2014 I was officially diagnosed with Crohns disease in 2017 during my second year of university. I've struggled maintaining remission ever since. There have been multiple occasions where I've been left completely unable to walk whether from the disease itself or medications.

Crohns has had a colossal impact on my life in every possible way with a list as long as my arm of horrendous symptoms and medication side effects to survive. If it weren't for the insurmountable support from my family and friends I simply wouldn't be where I am today- happy and well into remission.

Crohns and Colitis UK is a charity very close to my heart as the work they do supports so many people like me. The information that they provide to people with Crohns and Colitis, their families, employers and those around them is invaluable. I remember becoming a member in 2017 and not feeling so alone in my journey that was only just beginning.

The challenge of a marathon is one I get to choose to do. The challenges I have faced over the last decade I've felt like I didn't have a choice in facing. To be in a position where my body can be tested in this way is a testament to how far I've come and will be a huge personal achievement.

This is a challenge that I won't be facing alone and I will be running beside the ever wonderful and my long time best friend Lizzie - I really don't have the words to express my gratitude for her for guiding me in this challenge.

I'm doing this for those who can't. To support a charity that helps those people too. I have been one of those people for so many years. It's such a privilege and blessing to be healthy and run for a spectacular cause and keep spreading awareness.

See you at the finish line 💜
