🚵🏼♂️The Laureus Coast to Coast Challenge - with Sir Chris Hoy
Living in the Moment - For Chris Hoy, those four words have become a credo which has got him back on his bike for the Laureus Coast to Coast Challenge. Now, he needs your support to give his latest adventure the fundraising footprint it deserves.
Hoy has experienced moments that were at once unique to him and shared by all who witnessed them. He stood atop Olympic podiums seven times at three Games, in Athens, Beijing and London. He is an 11-time world champion. He raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of world sport’s iconic challenges.
As a Laureus World Sports Academy Member he has visited Laureus-supported programmes all around the world, inspiring – and being inspired by – the young people whose lives are changed through the work of these transformational projects.
Now this Olympic great is living with a disease that has redefined his appreciation of these moments.
On one hand, the extraordinary scenery, camaraderie and sense of achievement he will enjoy on a 600km ride from San Sebastian to Barcelona, from June 8-12, accompanied from Spain’s northern coastline to its eastern edge by a peloton of fellow fundraisers.
On the other, the moments yet to come: the opportunities and experiences that will be provided to thousands of children all over the world by the money raised during the Challenge. All funds will go to Laureus Sport for Good, the engine for a global network of programmes that change the lives of the young people they support.
“I've seen first-hand the challenges young people face globally,” said the six-time Olympic champion. “Sport offers hope and opportunity. That’s why I’m taking part in the Laureus Coast to Coast Challenge, raising funds to make that hope a reality and empowering young people to unlock their potential. I’m driven by the urgent need to improve the lives of young people in crisis.”
Hoy and his team will be joined for two of the five days by a fellow Laureus Academy Member, five-time Tour de France winner Miguel Induráin.
Together, they will cross the Spanish mainland, climb above 2,000 metres in the Pyrenees, and visit multiple Laureus Sport for Good programmes on their 750-km route.
This is the latest chapter in Hoy’s fundraising endeavours, which began long before his terminal prostate cancer diagnosis in 2023. Since then, his efforts have become ever more impressive, powered by an inspirational message of hope and positivity that is impossible to resist.
The dedication and drive that once powered Hoy to the Olympic finish line is now fuelling this new chapter in a remarkable life. The goals that were once defined by medals have been replaced by a different kind of fight.
“Sport taught me to look for opportunity when change happens,” he said. “And you don’t get much bigger change in life than a cancer diagnosis. You think: ‘What positives could possibly come from this?’ Well, it has to be that you have the opportunity to make change.
“None of my achievements on the track were down to me alone. I always had a team alongside me and now for this challenge I need as many of you as possible to support what we are doing in any way that you can. We can’t do it without you.”
