Story
Race Across Devon for Devon in Sight
On 18 July, my fiancé, Declan, and I will be taking part in Race Across Devon, an exciting fundraising challenge in support of Devon in Sight—a leading independent charity that supports people who are blind or partially sighted across Devon.
This event is particularly meaningful to me because of an incredible colleague I had the privilege of working with during my years in the NHS. Despite living with sight loss and relying on support and a guide dog, she never allowed her visual impairment to define her. Her positivity, determination, and dedication to helping others inspired everyone around her.
I worked closely with her to help ensure she could continue carrying out her role effectively, providing outstanding care to patients and making a valuable contribution to both colleagues and the wider team. Watching her overcome challenges with such resilience and optimism left a lasting impression on me.
Since then, she has gone on to work for Devon in Sight, where she continues to support and empower people living with sight loss. Taking part in Race Across Devon is our way of supporting this amazing charity and helping to ensure that others receive the advice, encouragement, and practical support they need to live independent and fulfilling lives.
Race Across Devon is a unique challenge that sees teams travel across the county using a variety of transport methods while completing tasks along the way. Each team includes a visually impaired participant alongside two sighted teammates, showcasing the power of teamwork, inclusion, and determination.
We would be incredibly grateful for any donation, no matter how small. Every contribution will help Devon in Sight continue its vital work and make a real difference to the lives of people affected by sight loss throughout Devon.
Thank you for supporting us and this fantastic cause.
