About Me
Hi my name is Lee Whitfield and I am looking for help in raising funds for this life changing charity.
In Jan 2020 at the ripe old age of 44 I suffered a brain aneurysm fell into a coma for several weeks. When I eventually came out of the coma, the devastating reality hit that I had lost my sight. I also came round to the news of the pandemic and Covid was hitting the headlines. One day before the 1st Covid lock down, after spending several months in hospital, I was told I could go home; I was given a white cane and sent on my way. I spent the next 6 months or so sat on my bed trying make some sense of what had happened to me. Truthfully my head has not stopped spinning since I woke up from the coma, however with the help of this amazing charity I am learning to spin with it.
I am currently on the waiting list for a guide dog of my own and I am excited to get a partnership and hopefully expand my boundaries.
I am hoping to raise as much as possible for wonderful association so thanks in advance
The Challenge
I have chosen to take on a section of the gruelling Dartmoor Way Walk across Dartmoor.
Along with sighted guides we will pick up the walk at Princetown where we will make our way North of Walkhampton before circling back to Princetown.
Since first planning this walk, we have had to make some changes due to unforseen circumstances but for it is still a navigationally demanding trek across the moor. It is a long-distance walk that has needed some serious planning to be ready for all weather conditions.
Guide Dogs
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives.
Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
