We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Our journey began with the birth of our son Rory at Kings College Hospital London, Dubai. Little did we know, this marked the start of a challenging rollercoaster ride. At just 2 days old, Rory failed his newborn hearing test in his left ear which doctors believed was due to fluid build-up, a common occurrence in newborns. Despite hoping for improvement, it became evident that his hearing was not improving. Further testing revealed profound hearing loss in his left ear and a few weeks later, he failed his hearing test in his right ear as well.

The search for answers led us to Great Ormond Street Hospital, London where extensive testing and analysis confirmed permanent hearing loss in his left ear due to an abnormality of the anatomy, Incomplete Partition Type 2 & Enlarged Vestibular Aquaduct, also known as Mondini malformation which is incredibly rare and GOSH has only ever had a handful of cases. While the right ear is hopefully expected to recover, our focus now is on exploring modern technology such as the possibility of a cochlear implant, bone conducting hearing aids and new technology to provide the amazing world of sound to our son's life.

We have set up this fundraiser as an appreciation to Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital Sight & Sound Centre for their unwavering support. Their dedication to putting children's wellbeing at the forefront is truly remarkable. With advancements in technology and the expertise of the incredible doctors at the hospital, we believe that significant progress can be made to support babies and children with hearing loss. The Sight & Sound Centre at GOSH is entirely charity funded, with no government support, and your incredibly generations donations go towards a Zeiss Microscope for ENT. Zeiss Microscopes are used incredibly frequently at GOSH in simple and complex ear surgery, including Cochlear implant placement.

For the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 15th, I will be wearing a charity helmet kindly donated by Bell Helmets.

Although the helmet name has now closed and the helmet has been painted, you can still donate to this incredible charity, to help them purchase a Zeiss Microscope for carrying out ENT surgeries on babies and children.

Thank you so much in advance for your kind donation.
