Story
Hi, my name is Liam and I’m running the London Marathon 2025 for Crohn’s & Colitis UK. Whilst this is a bucket list event for me there’s a reason why I’m doing it.
Why am I doing it? My fiancée Megan was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 3 years ago. Little did we know that what started off as a case of food poisoning could become a lifelong disease which is still, to this day, incurable. I’ve seen the highs of remission and the lows of flare ups and hospital admissions however Megan has always come out stronger, both mentally and physically.
What is Ulcerative colitis? It’s a type of inflammatory bowel disease with symptoms including diarrhoea, unintentional and rapid weight loss, blood in poo, fatigue, abdominal pain and urgency all of which significantly impact everyday life. Medication is used to control the condition and in some cases surgery is needed to remove some or all of the bowel.
How can we help? I’d love to raise £500 for this amazing charity but every penny helps! Together we can raise awareness, break down the stigma and ensure that no one has to face these challenges alone.
Stats: An estimated 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. And the real number could be almost double that because of the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding them.
Colitis can be diagnosed at any age, most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40 years old.
Atleast 1 in every 233 people in the UK live with Ulcerative Colitis.
Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by Crohn’s and Colitis.
