Story

Dear All

In September (21/09/2024), I will be taking part in the Julian Alps Lake Bled 80km mountain run (https://trailrun.si/en/home/) to raise funds for the National Youth Harp Orchestra of Great Britain (NYHO). The event expects more than 3000 runners from around the world in 2024 and the 80K route has an elevation gain of more than 3,500m.

Why the NYHO Charitable Trust?

This incredible organisation is dedicated to make the beauty and discipline of harp music accessible to the wider public and supports young harpists in fulfilling their potential. My family have been involved with the organisation for over a year and saw first-hand the joy it brings to young people and audiences in the UK and abroad under the guidance of their talented founder, award-winning harpist Luisa-Maria Cordell.

More information on the orchestra here: https://www.nyho.org.uk/ and on their official Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NationalYouthHarpOrchestra

The NYHO’s charitable activities include:

Community Outreach: In addition to a full concert schedule commitment, members regularly perform at charity events, in hospitals and to residents in care homes, bringing joy and comfort through music.

Bursary Fund & Instrument Access: they provide financial support to talented harp students from all economic backgrounds, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed. Where needed, harps are also available to members free of charge to ensure everyone has equal opportunities to participate.

Donations will directly support these initiatives, helping the NYHO expand their outreach programs and provide valuable experiences for their young musicians. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference to this very unique and special charity.

More about the run

The Julian Alps 80 km run takes place in Slovenia, and is organised by UTMB. It is a trail run starting at Lake Bled and finishing in Kranjska Gora. I’m hoping to experience some stunning alpine scenery, including the Upper Sava Valley, Julian Alps, and Austrian peaks. The course features a significant elevation gain of 3,500 meters, with the highest point being Mt. Stol (2,174 m). The race has a 22-hour time limit and emphasises environmental responsibility.

Thank you for your support!
