Story
For those who know us, we've had a tricky few years.
i was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in 2022 and started dialysis in 2023. I was due to have a kidney transplant in January 2025 but unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer and the transplant was cancelled. The fun continued in October 2025 when I had a stroke and spent 4 weeks in hospital.
I now have dialysis 3 times a week, 4 hours each time, and cancer treatment once a week.
I know 72,208 steps isn't a huge amount, for some of you, but it's helping me build up my strength and stamina and go walking in the Shropshire Hills in the summer.
72,208 is the number of people (in the UK) who have had a kidney transplant or on dialysis.
The National Kidney Federation is run by kidney patients to support kidney patients and their families. It runs a free UK Helpline dedicated to kidney patients with two fully trained, experienced advisers providing a 5-day-per-week service to kidney patients, carers and healthcare professionals and Renal Units. The NKF Helpline is also the UK's largest provider of kidney-related medical information leaflets with a library of over 200 titles written by nephrologists in simple language for patients and carers.
Please support this sponsored step challenge so the National Kidney Federation can continue its vital work in supporting patients.
