Story
Please support our Best Foot Forward challenge by either walking or running 72,208 steps this April.
The 72,208 steps represent the number of people in the UK being treated for end-stage renal failure.
The National Kidney Federation (NKF), established in 1978, is run by kidney patients to support kidney patients and their families across the UK with two main roles - patient support and campaigning.
The NKF provides a National Helpline dedicated solely to renal patients, their families and carers, by providing a free-to-call service on 0800 169 0936. The NKF is the UK's largest producer and distributor of kidney-related medical information leaflets with a library of over 200 titles written by nephrologists in simple language for patients.
The FREE UK Helpline is dedicated to kidney patients with two fully trained, experienced advisers providing a 5-day-per-week service to kidney patients, carers, healthcare professionals and renal units.
Your support will help us to continue the vital work of supporting kidney patients and their families and campaigning for better renal treatment.
I first came across the NKF at the kidney care centre at Edgware Hospital. I have been a kidney patient since 2014, and a few years ago, I was referred to the Low Clearance department nearer to my home. I was impressed by the amount of information and support that can be provided by the National Kidney Federation to kidney patients. Plus, the charity is run by kidney patients which is great👍When I saw the NKF Best Foot Forward Challenge (after Covid in the summer of 2021), I decided to have a go and raise money for the charity. I love walking and enjoy raising funds for projects I believe in. The support I received from NKF’s Helpline Advisor Stephen before starting dialysis was absolutely amazing and helped me understand what to expect when starting my treatment. "
