Story
My brother Steven was 36 when he was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma - a rare cancer most doctors had never heard of. When he died four years later his two sons Spencer & Parker were just 8 & 4. His gorgeous wife Veronica was devastated.
Steven was brave. Like an actual warrior. The rarity of his cancer meant his final years were spent battling through pain & experimenting with untested treatments which pushed his mind & body to the brink. However bad he felt, he always told us he was fine, to protect us.
Steven would visit Bury Cancer Support Centre which offers an escape for cancer patients - counselling, complementary therapies & a place where other people understand the pain. That's why I'm running the London Marathon for them. It costs £200,000 a year to run the support centre & all of that comes from donations & fundraising.
26 miles is well outside my comfort zone but remembering Steven, who I miss immeasurably, will get me through. He was my lifelong best friend & always there for me.
When our dad died suddenly, Steven stepped in to take his place on my wedding day. He gave me away & made a beautiful father of the bride speech in my dad’s place. This is my way of saying thank you ❤️
