The Marine Conservation Society is a UK-wide community of ocean lovers all working together towards our vision of a sea full of life, where nature flourishes and people thrive.

Today, our ocean is in crisis because of human activity. We’re determined to tackle this growing emergency by working with communities, businesses, and governments. A healthy ocean can help protect us all against climate change and it can sustain a diverse array of species, including our own. From cleaning beaches to shaping government policies, together we can work towards a cleaner, better-protected, healthier ocean. One we can all enjoy.

My story

🌊 An African Water Baby 🌊

From the shores of Lake Malawi to the Balearic Sea, my love for water runs deep.

I was born in landlocked Malawi, yet water has always been part of my DNA. As a child, I spent endless days swimming barefoot with my siblings in Lake Malawi. Later, growing up in Swaziland, I’d disappear with friends—climbing trees, leaping off rocks, and exploring rivers and waterfalls. Water was our freedom, our joy, our adventure.

At Silcoates School in Yorkshire, I swam competitively—not the fastest, but full of heart. My love for the water only grew as I traveled the world, swimming in stunning locations: caldera lakes in Sumatra, alpine waters in Austria, castle lakes in Ireland.

I’ve completed 3 IRONMAN events and become passionate about open water swimming. Diving took things further. After getting my PADI, I entered a whole new world—swimming with marine life across Borneo, the Barrier Reef, and even locking eyes with a humpback whale in French Polynesia.

But in 30 years of diving, I’ve also seen the heartbreaking decline of our oceans. Plastic and pollution in even the most remote places. Fragile ecosystems struggling. This can’t continue.
