Story
In September, I will be completing a six-peak hiking challenge in memory of our very special dog, Georgie, while raising money for Guide Dogs.
My brother, Sam was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa when he was 10 years old, a degenerative sight condition that has a significant impact on his daily life. During this journey, Guide Dogs provided us with Georgie through their Buddy Dogs service. Georgie was so much more than a dog – she was a companion, a source of confidence, comfort, and friendship. She brought joy to our family and helped my brother feel more independent and connected to the world around him.
Sadly, Georgie passed away in May after battling aggressive lymphoma. Her loss has left a huge hole in our hearts and daily life, but we will always be grateful for the love, support, and happiness she brought into our lives.
I am taking on this six-peak challenge to honour Georgie's memory and to give something back to Guide Dogs, whose support has made such a difference to our family. Every donation will help Guide Dogs continue providing life-changing services, companionship, and support to people living with sight loss.
The Challenge
Over three days I'll cover around 65km on foot and climb the equivalent of nearly 5,500m in elevation roughly the height of Everest Base Camp!
Day 1: Ben Nevis (1,345m) + Aonach Mor (1,221m) — Scotland
Day 2: Scafell Pike (978m) + Helvellyn via Striding Edge (950m) — Lake District
Day 3: Snowdon (1,085m) + Tryfan (918m) — Snowdonia
As the saying goes:
"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than she loves herself." – Josh Billings
Georgie's loyalty, unconditional love and unwavering companionship showed us the truth of those words every single day.
If anyone would like to join me for all or part of the challenge, I would love the company. Whether it's one peak, a few miles, or simply showing your support along the way, please get in touch.
Thank you for supporting me, remembering Georgie with us, and helping Guide Dogs continue their incredible work.
In loving memory of Georgie – our loyal friend and much-loved family member. Every step I take on this challenge will be for Georgie. 🐾💛
