67km Camino Walk in Support of Ocular Melanoma UK

Louise Stokes is raising money for OCULAR MELANOMA UK

OMUK Camino de Santiago Trek · 7 October 2026 to 11 October 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

Our OMUK walkers will cover the final 67km of the historic Camino Frances, beginning in Palas de Rei. Over three days the route leads through gentle green countryside, small villages and peaceful woodland as they make their way towards Santiago.

Story

OMUK supports hundreds of people each year with calm, trusted information and emotional support. Their helpline, psychological services and community groups provide reassurance at moments when people feel unsure or isolated. They also work with clinicians and policy makers to improve understanding of ocular melanoma and strengthen care across the UK.

Your donation will help OMUK continue this essential work, from expert guidance at diagnosis to support for families adjusting to life with ocular melanoma. Every contribution helps ensure that no one faces this disease without clear information and a supportive community around them.

Thank you for helping me support OMUK.

So.......eleven years ago my world turned upside down. I was given the diagnosis of ocular melanoma....cancer of the eye. Who knew it's a thing!

Ocular melanoma is an extremely rare cancer which affects approx 750-850 people a year in the UK. Although a rare cancer it is an aggressive one and potential lethal one. In fifty per cent of cases the disease later targets other areas of the body particularly reoccurring in the liver. For this reason regular scans are crucial!

OMUK are the only charity dedicated solely to supporting people affected by ocular melanoma. It is a small charity that provides a lifeline for its members, offering emotional and psychological support alongside providing information and guidance.

OMUK are constantly fighting for both funding and recognition in order to provide better access to treatment for their members.

I cannot begin to thank them enough for their help and it is for this reason that I am taking on the Camino Trail Challenge.

Thank you so much for reading my post and any sponsorship would be gratefully received.

I would like to leave you with a very important reminder to.....
