Story
On Sunday 12th October (eek! That’s not long), myself and my three girls (Maddie, Georgia and Olivia - Madre and her Minnies) will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in memory of my beloved dad, their Grandpa Brian, who as many of you know passed away in June 2019 after living with Alzheimer's Disease and Vascular Dementia for many years.
For years, I have talked about doing something to raise money for this worthy charity, and the girls have finally beaten me down to actually 'do it'!
My father/Grandpa was the most kind, special, and loving man who was extremely close to all our hearts. He wasn’t just my dad to me. As many of you know from having an ill mother from an early age, and losing her at 12 years old, he became my absolute everything.
Dementia UK provides specialist dementia nurses who offer life-changing support and advice to families facing dementia. Dad’s slow deterioration was incredibly hard to watch and experience, it will certainly last with me in my mind forever. That being said, we'd like to fundraise and give back in his memory to try and support those affected by dementia and advance research into the cause, cure, and prevention.
Whilst Maddie and Georgia are seasoned runners(!), Olivia and I are certainly not (the odd 5k or so), so taking on this half-marathon is a mighty challenge for us. Training will be hard, it's already hard, but one we're proud to do for such an important cause. Even if I walk over that finishing line, I will be pleased as punch with the achievement.
We would really appreciate any donations of support and please think of us or come along and support us in October.
Best Wishes,
Lu
