Hi, my name is Luke and I’m a Scout from Somerset. I’ve been given the amazing opportunity to take part in SomerTREK 2027, an international Scout expedition that will travel through Germany and Switzerland.

This trip means a lot to me for a few special reasons. I was actually born in Germany when my family was stationed there with the Armed Forces, so visiting again will be really meaningful. I’ve also been teaching myself German in my spare time and plan to set GCSE German privately in 2028, so this trip would be a fantastic opportunity to practice speaking the language and experience the culture first-hand.

Before we settled in Somerset 5 years ago I moved constantly and it was hard to get into clubs and meet people. I love that I am now part of a regular Scouts group and I have build really strong friendships and feel part of a community. Opportunities like SomerTREK are exactly what Scouts is all about – adventure, teamwork, independence and making lifelong memories.

To take part, I need to raise £2,500, which will help cover travel, accommodation and activities during the expedition. I’ll be doing my best to fundraise myself through events and challenges (weekend work, a bike challenge, volunteering to raise some donations), but any support – big or small – would really help me get there.
