In the summer of 2027, a group of up to 53 Explorer Scouts from across Somerset will take part in an unforgettable international adventure – SomerTrek 2027. From 31st July to 16th August 2027, our team of Explorers and volunteer leaders will travel across Europe by coach, experiencing new cultures, building friendships, and developing skills that will stay with them for life.

Our journey will begin in Germany, where the group will start their European adventure and experience the history and culture of the country. From there we will travel on to Italy, exploring one of Europe’s most iconic destinations and giving our young people the chance to discover a new country, its traditions, and its incredible landscapes.

The highlight of the expedition will be spending a week at Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland, often known as the “Permanent Mini Jamboree”. Scouts from all over the world gather here to take part in outdoor adventures, international activities, and cultural exchanges. During the week, our Explorers will challenge themselves through activities such as hiking in the Alps, international friendship activities, and outdoor skills – all while meeting Scouts from across the globe.

On the journey home, the group will also visit Disneyland Paris, giving everyone a chance to celebrate the end of an amazing expedition together.

SomerTrek is about far more than just travel. It is about helping young people grow in confidence, independence, leadership and teamwork. For many of our Explorers, this will be their first international expedition and an opportunity to experience the world beyond Somerset.

To make this trip possible, every Explorer and leader attending is fundraising £2,500 to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, activities and international experiences. Throughout the next two years we will be organising fundraising events, community activities, and challenges to help make this adventure accessible to all participants.
