Challenge 2026 for Cardiac Risk in the Young

Eddie Whittle is raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young

Team: Eddie's Challenge 2026

In memory of Matthew Wallbank

Challenge 2026

Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions.

I think most of you know the story by now. Matt and I went to London for our friends wedding and when I woke the morning of the wedding Matt had died in his sleep.

Whilst time is a great healer its still can have me in bits, as with his parents and sister.

So Becky, Matts sister decided to raise money to enable CRY to carry out heart screening in the North West in Matts memory and hopefully help prevent other families and friends go through this tragedy.

Matts sister and nephew and niece were all screened by CRY to detect any heart defects.

To help raise the funds for a screening session In Matt's memory and to raise funds for some amazing charities, i'll be taking on challenge 2026. Six huge challenges in 2026.

March - Angelsey Half Marathon. Mum loved coming to watch me run this event. She loved North Wales and we stayed at Llandudno for the night after for her birthday present. So it had to be included in the events for 2026.

March - Rat Race Arctic Circle. 3 countries and 3 winter sports. 19 miles on bike, 13 miles on skis and 13 on foot. Whilst this distance may not seem much, it will all be on snow and in temperatures down to -20. Chilly!

May - Pendle witches way.

July - Way of the Roses 3 Peaks Duathlon - Cycle 171 miles from Morecambe to Bridlington stopping off to complete the Yorkshire 3 peaks on foot. Oh and did I mention all in under 24 hours. Easy!

September- Calder divide trail gravel ride

October - Llandudno Triathlon.

With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young.

By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.
