UnityMK Big Sleepout and Glasswalk 2025 · 6 June 2025 ·

This year, UnityMK invites compassionate individuals to step out of their comfort zones and raise vital funds by joining one or both of our powerful challenges: Sleepout, Glasswalk or combine both.

Story

MacIntyre have been supporting Unity MK following a chance conversation with a person we support. They told us that they wanted to do something to help the homeless in Milton Keynes and from this a wonderful partnership was formed.

This year, UnityMK is inviting compassionate people to step out of their comfort zones and raise vital funds by joining one, or both, of their powerful challenges.

Glasswalk - Taking challenging steps in the fight against homelessness. Glass walking is the act of walking across hundreds of broken glass bottles.

Sleepout: Spending one night sleeping rough in a car park to experience a brief but thought-provoking insight into the challenges people face when forced to sleep rough.

In addition to this, people supported by MacIntyre and MacIntyre staff will also be taking part by hosting their very own Sleepouts in the gardens of where they live.

Why are we doing this?

UnityMK is a charity that supports members of our Milton Keynes community who are experiencing homelessness or in crisis. They need to continue to raise vital funds to support their guests who use their services and events like this make all the difference.

Your kind donation to this event could provide lifesaving support to someone like Mark:

‘Mark* was a veteran forced to leave his home when his landlord failed to maintain it, leaving him with no choice but to sleep in a tent. Surviving on a small pension and challenged with the cost of living crisis, he struggled to find a safe place to live and didn’t feel worthy of support from the veteran’s support charities. When Mark came to us, our welfare team listened to his story, assessed his needs, and quickly provided him with a warm, secure bed in our night shelter.

After some time, the Council offered him a place in sheltered accommodation. However, it was located outside of MK and lacked transport links, making it impossible for him to return and access his support network.

Every Tuesday morning, our centre hosts a community club service—a welcoming space where anyone can find support and connection. During one of these sessions, a volunteer casually mentioned to our welfare team that they had a room available for rent. The team quicky introduced them to Mark and before long, he had a safe and affordable place to call home.
