Story

28 Oct 2023 Update: To the person who stole the London topper, you would have also stolen the card on it with the QR code that takes you to this page. If you have the topper and read this I am giving this opportunity to return it, no questions asked. Taken from such a beautiful area which has security cameras. Doubtful but you never know. If returned or found please leave a message on this page. Let’s hope this one can continue raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. 💚

25 Oct 2023 Update: It’s always a sad day when a topper goes missing and sadly the one from Old Brompton Road, Kensington, London has gone missing. It’s helped raise lots of money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Attached with cable ties and characters sewn on to metal supports so obviously a planned removal.

The current total is this JustGiving page plus gift aid and £76 from corporate card reader donations.

Please read more about my fundraising below and thank you for your support.

28 Sep 2023 Update: The book raffle winning ticket was number 80 and the winner has received their signed author donated book.

26 Sep 2023 Update: The Hertfordshire topper is now on display in a village called Burnham Green which is a village I think Beatrix Potter would have liked. Surrounded by beautiful countryside with lots of lovely walks and other pretty villages.

23 Sep 2023 Update: The Hertfordshire postbox topper will be on display with Macmillan Cancer Support at a corporate company open day before moving very soon to its Hertfordshire location.

18 Sep2023 Update: The second topper has been placed in London near the site of Beatrix Potter’s former London home. The site is now a primary school after her home was destroyed in the blitz but there is a great blue plaque to mark the location. Please enjoy if you get to visit and feel free to share/tag me in any photos online. 💚

How a simple crochet idea turned into a mini fundraiser!

I wanted to do something special for my mum’s 80th birthday and to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. If this postbox topper has made you smile and you are able to do so, Macmillan would be very grateful for a little donation. No donation is too small and 100% will be going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

In September my mum has her special 80th birthday and she loves the postbox toppers which are created in the UK by many knitters and crocheters. There is a Hertfordshire topper which is currently on display on a corporate company postbox in Hertfordshire before being installed in a village location which I think Beatrix Potter would have liked.

My mum was born in 1943, the year Beatrix Potter sadly passed but my mum has been a lifelong admirer of her work and we always say we think she is part Beatrix Potter. She is a farmer's daughter, has backpacked all around the Lake District, has a passion for organic gardening, wildlife and animals and raised her three children on the wonderful tales of Peter Rabbit and his friends and this is something passed down to grandchildren.

My mum will receive her own special set of characters who are going on their travels and creating their own photo book of memories. Her own Peter Rabbit & Friends story book of photos. They have been photographed at many landmark places in London and the Lake District including the home and gardens of Beatrix Potter's Hilltop home and at some of my mum’s favourite Lake District walking spots.

I couldn’t come home from the Lake District without leaving my own little gift to such a beautiful area so they have also received a matching postbox topper in the village of Hawkshead. I was reminded there are not many round pillar boxes in the Lake District after the making so I selected the one in Hawkshead as I remember many lovely visits with my mum.

No matter what happens to the toppers, as sadly some are stolen or destroyed by vandals, I have created many lovely memories and I know my mum will love her little characters and photo book so here’s to September when I can finally reveal the secret mission!

Thank you for reading about my fundraiser and Happy 80th Birthday Mum! x
