Over the past 2 and a half years, I have faced ongoing health challenges and have been diagnosed with multiple chronic conditions, including hypermobile spectrum disorder (HSD). As I await genetic testing to rule out a rarer genetic condition, I reflect on the significance of May 2025. This date not only marks my 17th birthday—an achievement I once doubted I'd reach—but also two years since my health first declined and one year since it hit an all-time low during my GCSEs.
In the last six months, I have dedicated myself to strengthening my body and striving for a sense of normalcy . Transitioning from relying on a wheelchair due to severe muscle spasms and dislocations to walking over 10 K on multiple occasions is a testament to my resilience and determination.
Throughout this journey, I have been fortunate to have unwavering support from family and friends. However, two individuals stands out as my greatest allies. My best friend Darcy and my mum Kate. Without them I would have never been able to get through any of it.
Together, we are excited to announce that on the 24th of May 2025, we plan to complete a challenging 20-kilometer hike around the stunning Purbecks in Dorset. This endeavor is not just about achieving a personal milestone; it is also an opportunity for me to give back to Ehlers-Danlos Support UK—a charity dedicated to researching conditions that affect me and many others.
I invite you to join us in this mission by supporting our fundraising efforts. Our target is £250, which will directly contribute towards vital research and support for those living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Your generosity can make a difference in our lives and the lives of countless others facing similar challenges.
