Story
Running 13.1 Miles for a Cause Close to Home
On 11th October, I’ll be taking on my first official half marathon, running through London’s Royal Parks. While I’ve spent much of my life with trainers on my feet, stepping up to the 13.1-mile mark is a big milestone for me – and a vital step toward my ultimate dream of completing a full marathon.
Why Alcohol Change UK?
I’m running for Alcohol Change UK because their mission is deeply personal to me. I have seen first-hand how alcoholism affects not just the individual, but those closest to them. Earlier this year, I also lost a friend to addiction.
Alcohol Change UK isn’t "anti-alcohol" – they are for change. They work to ensure that people drink as a conscious choice rather than a default, and they strive for a world where anyone struggling (and their loved ones) can access high-quality support without shame or stigma.
The Goal
I’m aiming to raise £350 to help them continue this life-changing work. To give you an idea of what your support can do:
£20 can help 20 people reduce their drinking through the Dry January® challenge.
£30 helps deliver better training for frontline workers supporting dependent drinkers.
£40 covers the cost of supporting 16 people for six months via the Try Dry® app.
Training for this has been a journey of its own – my legs are currently wondering why I couldn't have just taken up a quieter hobby like knitting. But knowing that every mile helps prevent the kind of harm I’ve seen addiction cause makes every blister worth it.
If you are able to donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to me. Thank you for helping me turn this "dream run" into real support for a cause that truly matters.
