I'm proud to be fundraising for the Long Island Marathon in support of Friends of Karen, a nonprofit organization that provides vital emotional, financial, and advocacy support to families with a child facing a life-threatening illness.

When my youngest sister, Zoe, was in treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Friends of Karen provided support to my family that eased the emotional toll and challenges we faced. Our social worker, Siobhan, came to our home and helped my other sister and myself by educating us about leukemia. Through books and art, we learned about red and white blood cells, platelets, and the science behind cancer. Siobhan used play therapy to help Zoe process the trauma she was experiencing at age 3-4. Siobhan's compassion changed the course of our lives. I am forever grateful for the meaningful difference she made.

As a member of the Friends of Karen Jr. Advisory Board, my goal is to raise funds that will directly benefit families like mine. No one should have to face the emotional and financial challenges of a serious illness alone—and with your help, they won’t have to.
