Story
Margaret Lennox MacGregor
18 October 1935 – 21 December 2025
Margaret Lennox MacGregor lived a long and purposeful life, marked by quiet service, strong values and commitment to her community. Born in Liverpool, raised in North London and educated at Cambridge, she met her husband Roy while at university and later settled in St Andrews with him when he took up a post at the University of St Andrews. St Andrews became their home for the rest of their lives.
Together Margaret and Roy raised four sons, Alastair, David, Murray and Gavin. She managed a busy household with calm efficiency, caring for her family while welcoming friends, neighbours and visitors into her home. Later she took pleasure in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, quietly supporting them and enjoying their company.
Margaret was a familiar figure around St Andrews, often seen cycling through the streets. She devoted much of her life to helping others: for almost 50 years she volunteered at the local Oxfam shop, contributed to church activities including holiday camps for children, and offered practical support to refugees and families in need. Her generosity extended quietly but consistently across the town and beyond, in ways that touched many lives.
In memory of Margaret, and in recognition of her long association with Oxfam, donations to this fund will support the charity she served so faithfully.
