Story

On Sunday 26th April 2026 I'm taking on the biggest challenge of my life and running the London Marathon in loving memory of my treasured brother, Matthew Jordan, whilst hopefully raising as much money as possible for Hospice UK and here’s why….

After an incredibly brave battle with metastatic adrenal cancer, Matt sadly died on the 30th April 2025. He was only 36 years old and had so much of his life ahead of him to live in his uniquely ‘uncompromisingly authentic’ way. That day I lost not only my brother, one half of the infamous ‘cheeky little buggers’ pairing, but also my best friend. I have really struggled to come to terms with losing Matt, but entering the London Marathon 2026 has given me renewed purpose and a chance to do something truly special for him and Hospice UK.

Adrenal cortical carcinoma is an impossibly rare and aggressive cancer with an abysmal prognosis but at no stage did it break his resolve to fight and get better. Even in his final days, he never gave up and was still his charismatic, witty self. His unyielding spirit, and how he faced life’s trials with an awe-inspiring and unstoppable determination will drive me to the finish line.

We tried desperately hard to care for Matt at home, but as his illness progressed, we needed hospice support to manage his symptoms. We were so grateful to have access to professional and compassionate end-of-life care that gave Matt the respite he needed to still enjoy a reasonable quality of life and die with dignity. I know how much Matt valued the work of the hospice in making him feel that little bit better, which meant he could still enjoy a coffee, eat a meal, listen to music or watch the mighty Wycombe Wanderers play out a 0-0 draw.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case for many people with a terminal illness and too many miss out on vital hospice care that can ease the pain of death and dying. Hospice UK fights for hospice care for all who need it and supports over 200 hospices across the UK, helping them deliver the best, most personalised care to 310,000 people each year.

Matt never lost his strength, his essence, or his hope. Cancer couldn’t take his beautiful soul or who he was, the Matt we all know and love and who we will always hold dear in our hearts. It is this fortitude that will inspire me and drag me round the streets of London for 26.2 miles. Not only that but your support can make a huge difference too. Please consider donating to my page for Hospice UK in memory of Matt and join me in promoting and protecting hospice care for all.
